Kaztec Engineering Limited, an Abuja based EPC contractor has commended the President and Commander-in-chief of the armed forces of the Federal Republic of Nigeria, Dr. Goodluck Ebele Jonathan, GCFR, and the Minister of Petroleum, Mrs. Deziani Allison-Madueke, on progress recorded so far, in the oil and gas subsector of the economy. The company singled out the successful sorting out of the issue of gas pricing and gas supply to enhance generation, and distribution of electricity in the country as an area that deserves commendation.

Addressing journalists in Abuja, the Executive Director, Technical, Kaztec Engineering Limited, Engineer Adebanji Babarinde while pouring encomiums on progress recorded by the Jonathan administration in the oil and gas sector in the short period, however enumerated challenges faced by contractors in the execution of projects. These include: way leave issues, payment of compensation to the host communities and getting payments for work done. Others include getting the Central Bank of Nigeria (CBN) and Ministry of Finance to issue Letters of Credit (LC) for execution of projects, as at when needed, as well as the adverse effects of inflation which often result in variations, and avoidable and unnecessary long delays over approval of these variations.

Emphasizing the urgent need for the various government officials and agencies to be on top of their game, Engineer Babarinde added that these challenges cause delays in the timely execution of projects, and the public needs to be aware of these developments, rather than hold contractors responsible for project delays, all the time. Engineer Babarinde, who until recently was a general manager at NNPC, urged Nigerians to rally behind the president to deliver uninterrupted power for the much anticipated rapid development of the country.

In his own contribution the Project Manager, Kaztec Engineering Limited, Engineer Joseph Egona, while enumerating what looked like a scorecard for the company, said that Kaztec had achieved over 80% completion rate on the 156 million US Dollar, 127 kilometer, 24 inch Adanga to Calabar gas pipeline project, and said his company expected to deliver the project by September 2010.
